TAEBAEK

 

Taebaek is the name of a mountain with the meaning of "bright mountain", where Tangun, the founder of the nation of Korean people, reigned the country, and the bright mountain symbolizes sacredness of soul and Tangun's thought of "hongik ingan"[humanitarian ideal]. There are numerous sites known as Taebaek, but Mt. Paektu, which has been typically known as the cradle of Korean people, is the background naming the Taebaek poomsae. New techniques introduced in this poomsae are sonnal-arae-hecho-makki, sonnal-opeo-japki [grabbing], japhin-son-mok-ppaegi [pulling out the caught wrist], Kumkang-momtong-makki, deung-jumeok-olgul-bakkat-chigi, dol-tzeogi [hinge], etc. The line of poomsae is like a Chinese letter, which symbolized the bridge between the Heaven and the earth, signifying human beings founded the nation by the Heaven's order. The poomsae movements are largely composed of momtong-makkis and chigis.

READY STANCE: Parallel ready stance facing -B-.

1. Move left foot toward -L1- into a right TIGER STANCE while executing a low knifehand spreading block.

2. Execute a right front snap kick to -L1-, lower foot into a right FRONT STANCE to -L1-.

3 & 4.
Execute a right punch; execute a left punch.

5. Pivot on left foot, clockwise toward -R1- into a left TIGER STANCE while executing a low knifehand spreading block.

6. Execute a left front snap kick to -R1-, lower foot into a left FRONT STANCE to -R1-.

7 & 8.
Execute a left punch; execute a right punch.

9. Move left foot counter-clockwise to -B- into a left FRONT STANCE while executing a simultaneous left high block and right palm-up knifehand to neck level toward -B-.

10 & 11.
Pull the right hand downward and turn palm down into a scooping block to the right side-front,
step forward with right foot into a right FRONT STANCE with a left reverse punch to -B-.

12 & 13.
Pull the left hand downward and turn palm down into a scooping block to the left side-front, step forward with the left foot into a left FRONT STANCE with a right reverse punch to -B-.

14 & 15.
Pull the right hand downward and turn palm down into a scooping block to the right side-front, step forward with the right foot into a right FRONT STANCE with a left reverse punch to -B-. "KI-YAP"!

16. Turn counter-clockwise by pivoting on the right foot toward -R2-, while executing a diamond- mountain body block in a right BACK STANCE to -R2-.

17& 18 &19 & 20 & 21.
Maintain the back stance and execute a right uppercut to chin level while bringing the left sidefist to the right shoulder. Execute a left side punch. With the right foot fixed, move the left foot up to the right back knee, into a right CRAIN STANCE and bring both fists to the right hip. Execute a left sidethrust kick to -R2-. Lower left foot into a left FRONT STANCE to R2 and execute a right elbow smash to -R2-.


22. With the right foot fixed, draw the left foot inward to assume an ATTENTION STANCE toward -A-. Keep both fists on the left side at chest level, left fist is palm up and right fist is palm inward toward chest. Move the right foot to -L2- into a left BACK STANCE and execute a diamond-mountain block.

23 & 24 & 25 & 26 & 27.
Maintain the back stance and execute a left uppercut to chin level while bringing the right sidefist to the left shoulder. Execute a right side punch. With the left foot fixed, move the right foot up to the left back knee, into a left CRAIN STANCE and bring both fists to the left hip. Execute a right sidethrust kick to -L2-. Lower the right foot into a right FRONT STANCE to -L2- and execute a left elbow smash to -L2-.

28. Draw the right foot back to the left and then move the left into a right BACK STANCE toward -A-while executing a twin knifehand guarding block to -A-.

29. Step toward -A- into a right FRONT STANCE and execute a right middle spearhand strike with the left palm facing downward under the right elbow toward -A-.

30 & 31.
Turn 360 degrees counter-clockwise, pivoting on the left foot, bending the right arm behind the back. Turn low and spring back to assume a right BACK STANCE toward -A-and execute a left backfist to face level toward -A-.

32. Step to -A- into a right FRONT STANCE with a right straight punch to -A-. "KI-YAP"!

33. Pivot on right foot and turn counter-clockwise toward -L1- into a left FRONT STANCE with a scissors block (right in-out block and left low block).

34. Execute a right front snap kick to -L1-.

35. Lower right foot into a right FRONT STANCE with a right straight punch to -L1-.

36. Execute a left reverse punch to -L1-.

37. Pivot clockwise on left foot toward -R1- into a right FRONT STANCE with a scissors block (left in-out block, right low block).

38. Execute a left front snap kick to -R1-.

39. Lower left foot to -Rl- into a left FRONT STANCE with a left straight punch to -R1-.

40. Execute a right reverse punch to -R1-.

PIVOT ON THE RIGHT FOOT, TURNING COUNTER CLOCKWISE TO READY POSITION
